David W. Beskeen has authored or co-authored numerous computer books since 1992, including more than 25 titles for Course Technology. An expert in applied technology, Mr. Beskeen has a variety of teaching and consulting experience in today's computer technology.

Carol M. Cram is the author of more than 35 textbooks on computer applications, business communications, and Internet-related subjects. Ms. Cram was also a long-time faculty member at Capilano College in North Vancouver, where she served as the Convenor of the Executive Support Program, the Program Consultant for Business and Computers in Continuing Education, and an instructor of business and computer-related courses.

Jennifer Duffy is a freelance author who lives and works in New Hampshire. Really nice text book, step by step instructions, lots of information and very informative. Love that is it spiral bound but the pages are so thin I am so afraid I will tear them. But all in all its a nice book and bound nicely

RAFE BLAUFARB (Ph.D., University of Michigan) is Ben Weider Eminent Scholar Chair in Napoleonic History and the Director of the Institute on Napoleon and the French Revolution at Florida State University. He is the author of The French Army, 1750-1820: Careers, Talent, Merit (2002) and Bonapartists in the Borderlands: French Refugees and Exiles on the Gulf Coast, 1815-1835 (2005) and has published articles in Annales, H.S.S., French Historical Studies, French History Studies, Comparative Studies in Society and History, Revue d'histoire moderne et contemporaine, and Annales historiques de la RŽvolution Fran?aise. He has taught at the UniversitŽ Paul-ValŽry III (Montpellier) and he has received fellowships and research grants from the NEH, Mellon Foundation, and Camargo Foundation, as well as a Bourse Ch‰teaubriand.

Good source for information!

As a history major specializing in France, Napoleon was bound to be a figure that I would encounter. This book is an interesting collection of information. The first part of the book is a brief history of Napoleon and his actions, while the second part consists of various letters and documents. Most documents have a bit of a preface to help the reader place the document in regards to the historical time period it is happening. My class read this book together and it was a hit. I recommend this to people interested in Napoleon or professors looking for a short, but informative reading assignment.

Dance Moms is my guilty pleasure and I am a total fan girl when it comes to the show and the girls on the show. It does not matter that I am much older, I still just enjoyed the show. I was so excited when this arrived in the mail today (thank you Gallery Books) that I immediately started to read it.

I am giving this around 3.5/3.75 stars.

I am not a huge fan of non-fiction, but I flew through this and finished it in only a few hours. It was a very easy and fast paced read. It did seem to jump around a little bit and had random things thrown in, but it still was pretty good. I definitively think fans of the show or Maddie will still enjoy it. I also think this is perfect for younger teens.

I really liked the personal touches throughout this book. There are small doodles from Maddie and pictures from her being a small child up until now. These were nice touches. The message throughout this whole book is pretty positive, and I think Maddie really shows her pride in being a positive role model for her peers.

I also liked the letters from others who know and have worked with her. I personally did not care for the Dear Maddie sections and could have done without these. However; I love the Today is a Beautiful Day entries.

I enjoyed that the other girls from the show are mentioned, especially Kenzie which you would expect since she is Maddie's sister. I liked learning a little more about her. But, there really is not much at all about Dance Mom's in itself in this book which was a little disappointing. There was not even a mention of Abby (the ALDC was mentioned), and I feel a chapter should have focused on Abby and Maddie's relationship. It did include information about Maddie and her past accomplishments: a little about Dance Moms and the dances from the show; Sia; her fashion line; SYTYCD and upcoming projects.

Overall, I did enjoy this but I was hoping for a little more. I am still glad I had the chance to read this and I look forward to seeing what else Maddie does in the future.

Fast read that is perfect for Tween girls!

I was skeptical to read this initially. Watching Dance Moms and Maddie's work on some TV shows, I thought she was adorable and very talented, but I wondered how much of her life was what she wanted versus what her parents were pointing her towards. This read was, to some degree, like reading a school assigned journal. Part record of this point in her life, part guidance and tips for other tweens, part hawking of her clothing line, and part musings about clothes, make-up, fashion, celebrities, and friends, this was a fun quick read. You aren't going to learn massive secrets or Maddie's deepest inner thoughts. You aren't going to get dirty laundry about the ALDC and her family. This is not a book about gossip. It is a cute look at a teenager learning make up tips, accessorizing, and experiencing the world. I'd love to see Maddie write a book in 10 years and see how much has changed and how much has stayed the same. At the same time, I hope lots of girls read this. Courage, in all its forms, is a necessary life skill. It takes hard work and dedication to compete in any arena. Malala is brave. Zendaya is brave. Maddie is brave. and the world needs more brave, hard working, creative, and smart young women to lead!

I love Maddie and look up to her, and this book made me love her more. It was a really great read. I'm 13 and I loved the layout of the book: with all the doodles and photos! 100% recommend it for anyone!

Great book. It was really hard to put down

Great book. It was really hard to put down, I finished it within a couple days. It covers his entire career from wrestling school in Texas, touring in England, living in a gym, fighting in japan, the main event in ROH, and taking over the WWE. It is an incredible story and it couldn't happen to a better person. Highly recommend it.

Yes!: My Improbably Enjoyable Journey to the End of this Book

My decision to buy and read this book was made on impulse shortly after I became aware of its existence. Despite being an avid professional wrestling/sports entertainment/whatever you want to call it fan for most of my life, I don't read these sorts of books often (the last one was by Adam Copeland, better known as Edge, and was published in 2004), though I do enjoy them. Pro wrestling, on the other hand, I haven't always enjoyed, and I don't think I would have gotten back into it or bought this book were it not for the WWE Network, which has allowed me to relive my favorite moments (mostly from the Attitude Era) and become acquainted with others from the past (like early Wrestlemanias) and present (like pretty much every match on NXT).

My subscription to the Network is really recent, which is important in the context of this review because sometime before The Great Khali became the "Punjabi Playboy" and up until the subscription, I stopped watching WWE programming, so many of the wrestlers and events mentioned in this book were ones I never saw, only heard about, since I kept somewhat up-to-date on my favorites (finding out that The Streak had ended was devastating; seeing it end on the Network a couple of weeks ago was worse) as their appearances declined along with my interest in storylines.

The talent currently known as Daniel Bryan was someone I didn't understand. I admired the beard but couldn't wrap my head around the popularity of the YES Movement or its leader, who was completely unknown to me (I've never had an interest in the indie scene, and I blame that on never knowing there was one until two years ago) in terms of what he had done or could do. That was my mindset before buying the book, of course, and I am glad I decided to change it.

Every chapter consists of two parts: a third-person account of an event taking place on Wrestlemania Week and a first-person account of the past. Both progress chronologically independent from one another, contrasting the celebrity status of Daniel Bryan with the humble (but not easy) life of Bryan Danielson until, like strands of DNA, they intersect at the end. It's a format that works wonderfully, and I think the experience is richer for it. I was hardly able to put the book down, always anticipating the next chapters (pardon the pun) in these sagas. In that respect, reading this book is like watching a good match, setting it apart from most autobiographies, even some with similar subject matter. Moments that take place on and off TV come alive in the mind's eye with ease, with the occasional photograph (nothing graphic) to remind readers that while the WWE creates fiction, this is anything but.

This is the story of a man who is likeable, funny, endearing, and inspiring; a man who can ignite a crowd with a single word; a man who has achieved greatness but finds happiness and comfort in simplicity; a man who has sometimes been overlooked but is impossible to ignore or forget; a man who decided to tell a story worth hearing.

A fine piece of wrestling literature

I've read some wrestling bios in my day, and this is up there with the best. No drunken hijinks or pill-fueled adventures, just a guy who loves wrestling. The Craig parts are fairly embarrassing (we know Brie is attractive, you can stop reiterating that), but Bryan's stories more than make up for it.

Meh, it's okay but not what I had hoped ...

Meh, it's okay but not what I had hoped for. The first of the five keys basically requires an assessment by a physio or other PT, along with other body tuning, massage, etc. that involves more money than I can swing. The others are not groundbreaking. Get the right shoes, strengthen hips, get your stride and cadence right, etc.

Worth reading! Best book I've EVER read!

It's hard to get me to read a book however, once I picked up Brad's book, I could not put it down. As a health professional myself, I found it comforting that Brad focused on the psychological impact of a physical injury. I appreciate and really enjoyed reading his personal journey through injury and rehabilitation and the struggles he faced which we can all relate to. This book is suitable for all levels of runners - from novice to elite and, not just runners. This book can be applied to most sports by following the 5 steps to running/performing pain free. I valued Stage 5 - the importance of rest. Most athletes (including myself), do not allow their bodies to rest enough and just train, train, train, get injured, need physio and rehab and it's a continuing cycle. I have now implemented a rest day in my training and, I come back the next day as a new athlete - refreshed and ready to smash the training again. As a runner, I never measured or focused on my cadence however, after reading Brad's book, I have now changed and am running more efficiently. I enjoyed the book so much that I travel to the Gold Coast to see Brad as my physio. A physio that understands, is empathic, values the importance of running and, is the most genuine, caring, compassionate physio I have ever come across who truly understands and respects the client.

Enjoyable to read and a thought provoking review of western art history

I found Art: One-On-One an engaging, easy read of a subject that I have long shunned as being too dense. The personalized nature of the writing made me feel like the author was sitting with me having a relaxed conversation on how to enjoy art as a way of life. Her enthusiasm and expressions of joy at experiencing art is contagious and refreshing.

Art One On One Takes Art Journey On A Unique Path

As a working artist with a minor in art history, I came to this book thinking it would be an arena I've explored many times over. The artworks that are the subjects for examination and reflection are familiar to me. I've done some journaling, though more on the road, recording impressions while traveling.

Art One on One ART One-On-One: Reflecting On Your Life Through Art took me by surprise, and was able to challenge what I thought was well trodden territory for me. It is a novel approach to examining art history through your own life lens. Or conversely, exploring your inner landscape through the great works of art. Starting with the cave painters of Lascaux, to the self examined life of Van Gogh, the author seeks out the wonder and humanity of each creation, and forces you to discover the connection to yourself.

This is a well crafted book, and the writing style is fluid and easy to follow, sometimes humorous, other times personally revealing, but always with a warmth and awe for the subject matter that is infectious for the reader (and journaler). I would have loved to have taken an art appreciation class from Kathy Statzer, for how she synthesizes the more formal discussions of art with its connection to us and our contemporary personal lives is a real gift. She makes art a living breathing extension of our own bodies, the true mirror to our souls.

And she is able to do so without a single reproduction! I had no problem with all the art references, as I easily found them on my iPad as I was reading from her book. Even with artwork you know so well you can conjure up an image in your head, it still is very helpful to have a photo readily available to refer to. Those with smart phones, iPods and iPads will find them very useful, as well as the computer.

This book is set up with exercises and prompts that will keep you on a course of self discovery, if you take the time to answer the questions. It would be fun to travel through this book with a partner or friend, or even meeting with friends on a weekly basis to share the self reflections.

‘Hold still the mirror of your wondrous life’

Kathy Statzer is a unique humanist, a woman immersed in loving art and teaching art and bringing those who gather round her pedagogical chair the significance that art can make in our lives. In her biography we learn ‘Initially, she assumed her life's work would focus on the welfare of animals. Then, she took her first art history class. And the love affair began. She immediately knew that she needed to teach this subject, to introduce this life-enriching world to students for, perhaps, their first time. Studying art history also sent her abroad in her younger years and left her with an unquenchable thirst for travel. She has kept this a priority in her life, resulting in her 3 year adventure living and teaching ESL in Kyoto, Japan.’

What this unique book offers the reader is the opportunity to study art history but in a far different manner than most teachers. Her emphasis is on looking and absorbing and writing in a journal the aspects of art that change our lives as well seeing the living space we occupy in an artful way. ‘Journal writing is the process of knowing yourself….Examining our lives, our impulses and intentions, our dreams and confusions, may be our most noble pursuit.’ And a bit later she states, ‘We live in an age of quick and loud communication. And we travel at unsustainable speeds. Still, our human need to peel back our own layers ad soulfully connect with ourselves, and each other, has not changed. Art can be our pause’ button and journal writing our ’playback.’ Even our laptops quiet down and process what they’re taking in. When do we? Our lives are fast. Art is slow. I invite you to enter ART ONE-ON-ONE and hold still the mirror of your wondrous life.’

Other writers have written beautiful books about looking at art – Peter Clothier’s tender and brilliant ‘Slow Looking’ comes to mind first – but the manner in which Kathy Statzer shares her seduction of truly seeing art and relating to it and then adding the incredibly useful aspect of journal writing in response to those experiences makes this a book that is illuminating and one that everyone who cares about art from ancient past to present should read - and write about! Targeting Terrorist Financing argues that it is not the institutions that have failed the war on terrorist financing; rather it is the states that have failed the institutions. The measures contemplated by the world community to interdict terrorists and their financial infrastructures are sufficient to debilitate the terrorists both militarily and financially. However, what has been increasingly lacking is political will among the states, and this has overwhelmed the spirit of cooperation in this very critical front against terrorism.

This volume assesses the need for international cooperation and the role of institutions and regimes in targeting terrorist financing. After the 9/11 attacks, there was an expression of global willingness to target terrorism generally, and terrorist financing in particular. The institutional mechanisms that grew out of this are explored in detail here, with a critical examination of the progress made by the international community. The impact of these measures is considered with respect to changes in the nature of the terrorist threat, money confiscated, adoption of international conventions, and global standards by states, and levels of compliance, among others.

This book will be of great interest to students of terrorism, international organisations, international security, and IR in general.

About the Author
Antonio Morena is a graduate of Middlebury College (BA / MA) and has received a Laurea from the University of Florence. In September 2008 he received his PhD from Harvard University (Department of Romance Languages & Literatures). He is currently an adjunct lecturer at Bentley College and has been teaching at the Harvard Extension School since 2003. During the summer he is a visiting professor at the Middlebury College Italian School.

Donatella Melucci was born and raised in Italy. She earned her Laurea in Lingue e Letterature Straniere from the University of Bari, Italy, and received a doctorate in English Rhetoric/Composition & Linguistics from Arizona State University where she taught for many years. She is now a Visiting Assistant Professor at Georgetown University in Washington DC. Her field of specialization is methodologies for teaching Italian as a second/foreign language. Her studies have also focused on the use of technology in foreign language classes.

Annamaria Moneti was born and raised in Italy. She received a Laurea di Dottore in Lettere from the Universita di Roma. She has had extensive teaching experiences at Liceo Classico,Italy; Universite II, Geneva, Switzerland; Syracuse University, Syracuse, New York. Moneti has authored two volumes of Conversazioni in Italiano and is a co-author of the AMICI series. She serves as a consultant for the New York State Education Department, and is a member of the Phi Beta Delta, Honor Society for International Scholars, and PHI SIGMA IOTA, International Foreign Languages Honor Society.

Graziana Lazzarino is Professor of Italian at the University of Colorado, Boulder. She is a native of Genoa, received her Laurea from the University of Genoa, and has taught at various European schools and American colleges and universities. She is also the author of In giro per l'Italia: A Brief Introduction to Italian, Da capo: A Review of Grammar, and Per tutti i gusti.

excellent grammar book

I bought this a few years ago for an evening class. The class wasn't too good, but I worked my way through the book and found it excellent. The explanations are clear and straightforward, the vocabulary is useful, and you can actually learn a lot about how to use the subjunctive and the conditional. It also has useful information about troublesome cognates and word usage. I would recommend this quite highly for anyone trying to learn Italian. It's a review grammar so in theory you should already know a little Italian, but if you have some knowledge of French, Spanish or Latin, or if you just have a positive attitude, you should have no problems with this book.

Having started Advanced Italian lessons, I find Da Capo an excellent review of the grammar structure and a good vocabulary enhancer for those who have had a comprehensive overview of Italian through beginning and intermediate classes. It starts off at a steady pace that allows students to review rules and those pesky exceptions. It maintains a good level of interest, espcially important since it main task is to review previously learned materials. Although I find the book a bit pricey, especially for a paperback, it is a great way to master previously studied material and bridge the gap from familiarity to fluency in the Italian Language. Bravo!

DA Capo As An Italian Textbook

Da Capo, as the title "From the Begining" states, does start with basic Italian essentials; it is not, however, a true beginner's text. It is an excellent text for intermediate students who have had classes, had some working knowledge of Italian, or had finished using a primary test. The book offers vocabulary, dialogues, reading pieces and exercises which showcase Italian culture. It does not, as do some of the other Italian texts, offer inane conversation or translation pieces simply to illustrate the lesson's grammar and vocabulary. The lessons include day-to-day speech patterns, not just the stiff grammatically correct phrases that one is unlikely to hear in everyday Italian conversation. The grammar lessons are well designed in a concentrated fashion. Da Capo is a worthwhile follow-on textbook for students who are both serious about studying the Italian language and putting some effort into that study.
