The Life of Shivaji Maharaj

I studied on this subject in my high school days. According to the writer, this book seems to be the first official publication on the lifves of Shivaji, his parents Shahaji and Jijabai. The book illustrates how the Muslim kings in south used Marathas as their protectorate for attack from northern Muslims. The south was always attacked by all kinds of Muslims over a long period of time. The book does not give the reason but from its account one can summarize what was the reason. In those days, the southern part was the place where the wealth ( gold, silver, precious and semiprecious stones)was. North did not have much or it looked for easy way to make themselves rich. One should read on Maratha Empire as further reading on the subject. The big highlight of the Shivaji administration was that it was tolerant of caste system and its appreciation for talent and loyalty. I was taken back when I read in the editorial that financing for the book difficult to get. Although some financing came from Shinde ( sometimes called Scindia)dynasty, there was input of some British in its publication.
This was an Amazon verified purchase only available on Kindle edition.

this was written from the Marathi viewpoint. It's rousing tale written in an older style, but I happen to like older styles.

This is a photocopy of the original book. For $40, i would expect an original copy, if not at least a published version, not a bound photocopy, I already had the photocopy.

Andr�-Fran�ois Bourbeau is professor emeritus at the University of Quebec at Chicoutimi where he taught for over 30 years in the Outdoor Adventure Program he co-founded. He also founded and directed the university's outdoor research laboratory. Bourbeau lives in the Saguenay region of�Quebec.

Very misleading title!!!

Not at all what I expected. I recently purchased this book as a way to brush up on my boreal forest wilderness skills in preparation for a big move to Alaska. Imagine my surprise on the ferry up when I discovered it was merely a biography and included essentially no how-to information. A decent read if you want to hear about 1 man's adventures outdoors, but of little value to those looking for skills-related information.

Jeffrey A. Gliner is Professor Emeritus of Occupational Therapy at Colorado State University. He taught graduate level research methods, statistics, and program evaluation courses to masters and doctoral level students for more than 20 years.

George A. Morgan is a Professor Emeritus of Education and Human Development at Colorado State University. He taught research methods and applied statistics to graduate students in several departments at Colorado State. In addition to writing textbooks on SPSS and research methods, he currently advises students on their dissertation research.

Nancy L. Leech is a Professor at the University of Colorado Denver. Dr. Leech is currently teaching graduate level courses in research, statistics, and measurement.

About the Author
Tom A. Jones was the founder and editor-in-chief of DPI for nine years. He is currently a teacher in the Greater Nashville Church. He is also the author of numerous books including Mind Change, No One Like Him, and Strong in the Grace. Steve D. Brown and his wife have been missionaries to Argentina and have also served in the ministry in Boston, Los Angeles, Dallas, and Nashville. He now lives in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas and serves as a teacher for the church. Together with Tom, he authored One Another: Transformational Relationships in the Body of Christ.

Good Point, good inrto to Volume 2

This book makes a simple but profound point if you think about it. I like to think I understand the difference between living life here on hearth and what it will be like in Heaven, but this adds the dimension of presenting us living life here as if we were already in Heaven. That's my take away. Volume 2 brings it all home with just how we can implement it, with encouragement to the leaders of the International Church of Christ [author's ministry] becoming less legalistic. I believe that God will truly bless the church that takes this Biblical teaching to heart.

this book smashes a lot of traditional theories and assumptions about what the kingdom is and introduces amuch more biblically based and seriously brain-twisting understanding. the second book is brilliant and eye-opening as well. can't wait to get my hands on book 3!

About the Author
Katherine Arnup is a social historian, professor, and life coach. She is a recognized expert on issues related to loss, aging and dying and its impact on families and communities. Her most recent scholarly publication was Death, Dying and Canadian Families, published by the Vanier Institute of the Family. As a certified professional coach, Katherine focuses on helping people through all sorts of transitions Katherine has felt loss and its impact first-hand. Despite a profound fear of death, she became her sister’s caregiver, confidante, and advocate when she was dying of cancer at the age of 51. The experience was life-changing – Katherine recognized the importance of being present and showing up for the more challenging experiences of life. The loss of her sister led to hospice training and volunteering each week for more than a decade at a residential hospice. Katherine has sat with countless families and friends as they experience the sadness and struggle of losing loved ones. She is a passionate advocate for providing dignified and caring support for dying people and their families. Katherine has been a university drop-out, a hippie, a grade one teacher, a graduate student and a university professor. She is a family caregiver, a mother, a grandmother, a Buddhist, a late-in-life wife, a guitar player, and a recent convert to the ukulele. She lives with her partner in Canada's capital city, Ottawa, Ontario.

Take time for this!

I've just finished reading this and I can honestly say that it is extremely well written, comprehensive and compassionate. There is lots of practical information; good, important questions to ask yourself; and a deep understanding of the subject matter. In various ways Katherine asks how you want to show up for your parents during the final phase of their lives; and the corollary: how do you want to show up for the rest of your own life?
Whether for your own parents or to suggest to a friend going through this, this is the time of our lives when such a guide is invaluable.

Wonderful book

The book came out soon after my mom passed away from Alzheimer's disease. I really wish I had had some of the information provided earlier on. It would have made the whole process of helping mom live and die somewhat easier in many ways.
The author provides a map of sort to bring up the subjects of caregiving and end of life decisions with loved ones and to navigate the highs and lows inherent to a caregiving journey.
I highly recommend this book: its guidance will be a blessing and a comfort to all caregivers.

An excellent read for those with aging parents -- so many of us today -- who want to face the issues of health care, elder care, aging and even end of life with constructive, open and proactive action.

It's also a guide for caring for ourselves as those who want to provide the best and most compassionate care and support to our aging loved ones.

Grade 3-6-- Pedro, one of three ship's boys on board the Santa Maria, acknowledges that he was hired on not for his seamanship, but for his ability to read and write. Conrad uses the device of a journal to tell of his adventures with Columbus, a man whom Pedro admires, but who also engages in fiery rages and penitent Hail Marys. The details of mutinous murmurings, falling stars, and false land sightings that are described in Susan Martin's I Sailed with Columbus (Overlook, 1991), Miriam Schlein's I Sailed with Columbus (HarperCollins, 1991), and Genevieve O'Connor's The Admiral and the Deck Boy (Shoe Tree, 1991) appear in this narrative as well, but in a tighter, more concise telling. Pedro's journal is a vivid revelation of the details of the voyage as well as the time period. Readers see the boy's discomfort in the explorer's proprietary treatment of the natives and, in particular, his shame that these people are allowed to believe that the Spaniards are deities. Koeppen's line drawings, many of the ships and their equippage, add dimension to the plot. One of the most pleasing of this season's Columbus offerings, Conrad's story will serve as an attractive alternative to nonfiction reading on the subject and certainly as a read-aloud. --Sylvia V. Chosen for his ability to read and write, young Pedro de Salcedo becomes a ship's boy on the Santa Maria--and keeps a diary of his own on the expedition, recounting the voyage across the Atlantic and the subsequent exploration of the Indies. Among the several recent fictional accounts, all told from the perspective of a ship's boy, this one is distinguished by its revisionist approach: Columbus is portrayed as an ill-tempered egoist, and the Indians are given their due as kind and gentle people, cruelly mistreated by the Spanish. Conrad's story, while not remarkable, is the best of the lot so far--a quick, pleasant read with possible appeal for reluctant readers: historical details are skillfully integrated, characterization is adept, and this popular author of suspenseful YA books brings her narrative skill to bear here. Great Read Aloud

I read this book each year in my unit on explorers. My 5th grade students love it and can really relate to the main character, Pedro. My only complaint is that it is short and the kids always want more.

I purchased three copies of the book because a short excerpt was in the teacher's manual of our Houghton Mifflin basal reader. The students and I were intrigued and wanted to know more about the story. It was not in our school library so I purchased 3 copies for our classroom library. The children have loved it!

Bringing Columbus' voyage to life for students

I read selections of this book out loud to my fifth grade Hispanic students who were intrigued with the young sailor and his experiences. It lent a "you were there" aspect to the study of history and it provided a model of diary style writing. This book was recommended by our history series.
